Our second day in New Orleans is our last on this trip; we leave tomorrow morning.
We went to the WWII Museum today. It’s our 2nd time there and 3 hours still wasn’t enough to take everything in. They’ve added two new exhibits: Liberation, exploring action after the enemy surrenders, and a 45-minute mini-documentary in 4D. We located Mae’s dad’s commemorative brick indicating his service during WWII.
We headed back to the French Quarter to take in some music and get something to eat. There are 7 stages set up along the river stretching for about a mile. We started at St. Peters Square with Wendell Brunious (who was one of the entertainers on the ship). He had his whole band with him which really added to the experience. After a Po Boy from Brennan’s Bourbon House and an Abita beer (of course) we just had to have some dessert.
It's a good thing that Café Du Monde is right across the street. Mae sweet talked a busboy who let us bypass the line and sit a great table. If you haven’t been there before then be advised that it’s best to not wear dark clothing. See the photos below for an explanation.
The city was absolutely crazy with people everywhere we went. A nice, quiet, close food option was on the agenda for the evening. We found it directly across the street from the hotel. It's funky, warm, relaxing, interesting and has a good bar and kitchen. You'll see below what I mean.
