Day 15 -Reykjavik, Iceland - July 8

Follow our journey on this map.

Day 15 was our first of three days in Reykjavik. The first cruise ends tomorrow (Sunday) and the second starts on the same day. We will sail from here on Monday night. We’ll be repeating the same stops we just had circling the island but we’ll be experiencing different places.

Because we have spent a bit of time in Reykjavik, we ventured out on our own with the help of Trip Advisor. We headed out to the Sky Lagoon which is only about 15 minutes from downtown. It’s a very contemporary thermal pool that was a whole lot of fun on a bright, warm (60 degrees) cloudless day.

The venue had a 7-step spa routine that was a hoot. Step one was hanging out in the big pool with a 200’ infinity edge looking out at the North Atlantic Ocean. That was followed by a cold plunge, reheating in a huge sauna with incredible views of the ocean, then a cold mist, a salt scrub (which removed almost all of my skin), a steam room and then a shower. It was a great way to kill a morning.

The pictures really don’t do the lagoon justice. The photo of us in the waterfall is courtesy of Robert Christman, a really nice guy who offered to take our photo with his phone and to whom I told he’d get photo credit😊

In the evening we went to an interesting restaurant with some folks we met on the cruise. We rolled our own shared tasting menu and wrapped up the evening at a bar Mae and I had frequented last time we were here. The leisurely stroll back to the transportation center was effortless given that at 10PM it was still full sunshine.
