Day 17, and we’re still in Reykjavik with brilliant skies.
A dark cloud has been over us all day today and not because of the volcano that just started erupting.
Today we mourn the loss of a very close friend of 30 years: Morey Raiskin. He lost his battle with leukemia on July 4 surrounded by his family. We were fortunate to spend some quality time with him before we left while he was a patient at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. Morey was brilliant. Morey was hysterical. Morey was loving. Morey was kind. And Morey was the best you could have in a friend. We’ll miss him terribly.
We did find some things to do during the day. We walked to FlyOver Iceland to experience their venue. It is like Soaring at Epcot Center. It was a well-produced interactive “flight” over Iceland and a lot of fun. I was able to snap a picture of Mae with a troll for the grandkids.
A leisurely stroll along the harbor waterfront landed us at our favorite restaurant in Reykjavik (how often does one get to write something like that😊?). It was a little fish and chips bar with really cold Viking beer.
Dinner was great. Check the photos. The first course was a mushroom and goat cheese strudel. It was interesting (in a good way). I did a reprise of the pork chop while Mae went all in on the Chilean sea bass. The drink was in honor of Morey.
We sail tonight heading for Isafjordor.
