Day 30 and we woke up to no rain. Today was a totally lounging day as we prepared for checkout of the Westin and moving over to the Gresham Palace to begin phase 4 of this adventure.
We had a light breakfast before going over to O’Neil’s for the All Ireland hurling match final. Well we got there way too early and left before the match.
But once we checked into the new hotel, we watched it on the TV. What a fascinating game as it appeared to be a combination of lacrosse, soccer, and rugby. Limerick won by having a miraculous 2nd half comeback and landed their 4th consecutive win.
We headed down for dinner and to meet the rest of the tour participants and the quiet lobby through which we had entered was wall to wall people, each with a drink in their hand, in all sorts of celebration. Little did we know that the match was being played in Dublin just a short walk from the hotel. This was the afterparty similar to a super bowl celebration.
Because of the press of people, the bar in the hotel was only serving beer from taps for efficiency.
Of course, we had to have our Irish Whiskey (used to be Bourbon 😊) nightcap, so we put on coats and headed out. Not more than 2 blocks away we found Murray’s. To say that we got an authentic Irish pub experience would be an understatement. There was live music with a lot of what I would call “jigs” being played. Everyone was singing along. There was dancing in what might have been aisles. There was a lot of chanting and spilled beer. It was fantastic.
I tried to get photos, but we did look a little out of place in that we weren’t wearing Limerick jerseys so I limited picture taking.
We’re off today on phase 4 to tour the country by bus and staying in 2 castles along the way. We have no idea what to expect, but we can’t wait!
