Day 1 - Jacksonville to Memphis - April 4

Follow our journey on this map.

Well, we're checking off another bucket list item: a Mississippi River cruise. We'll be sailing on the Viking Mississippi on Saturday and arriving in New Orleans a week later.

We drove to the airport with Tracey and the boys because they left a few hours before us. We miss them so much when they're not with us.

Delta provided an effortless journey to Memphis; clear skies, no delays. After checking into the hotel we rented a car to go explore some of Mae's old haunts; she lived her for several years growing up. We found the house she lived in, and probably like we all experience, the house was smaller than she remembered. We went past the grocery stores she recalled and swung by her schools before heading back to return the car.

It was too late for lunch but too early for dinner so we went to find a beer and something light to eat. We didn't find either. Blues City Cafe purportedly has the best ribs in Memphis so we stopped in. Out of all the selections we stuck with the full rack of ribs for two. All that was listed for drinks was iced tea and soft drinks. I totally missed the QR code on the menu for beer and wine. We survived just fine with iced tea and coffee. The ribs were crazy good and we devoured them. Needless to say, that sufficed as dinner also.

Given the high degree of activity with all the kids at home during Easter, we wandered back to the hotel, watched some TV, and went to bed early.
