Memphis unfolded as a brisk (for Floridians), cloudless day with light wind. That was wonderful because we spent most of the time outdoors.
We took a short bus ride around the city. Think Hop-on-Hop Off without the hopping. It was interesting to get a sense of the city and the history.
The real objective of today was to allow Mae to make a pilgrimmage to Graceland. So off we went. It was a crazy scene with lines of people everywhere. When we asked a worker if it was a normal crowd he said that they generally get 2,000 visitors a day. At that point they were already at 3,000 and it was only 2PM. Despite the crowd, we had a chance to see all we wanted to .
Having dived into Memphis food for the first few meals, we wanted something a little more elevated. We found The Peabody (the one with ducks if you're familiar) and their Italian steakhouse did not disappoint. The bread service included 3 butters of our choice. We chose tangerine and olive tampenade, roasted honey, and goat cheese and roasted garlic. The butters were really interestin and the bread had been made fresh hours before.
After dinner we retired to one of the old-school bars in The Peabody, listened to some music (live music is everywhere), had a nightcap and headed back to our hotel for an early turn-in time.
