Day 38 - Paris - July 31

Follow our journey on this map.

Day 38 began with writing my blog in a wonderful café across the street from the condo while sipping on an espresso. I really like Paris!

After making a trip to the local patisserie and grabbing a few croissants we headed back to the condo for a quick breakfast. Then we went on an adventure to the subway; and what an adventure it was. We opted for a 7-day pass to all of the mass transit. That involved our having to go to a selfie machine, take a headshot, go back to the ticket window and have an ID card made, and then enter the underground. The first of us to go through the process was a riot. The other 5 were much easier.

We made our way downtown to go on a self-guided tour of the Opera. Because we got there early we went into the flagship store for Galleries Lafayette. It’s a beautiful building (actually 3 buildings, each multi-story) that has anything you can imagine. And it’s an amazing building in itself. The rooftop gave us a 360-degree view of Paris and the surrounding area. The interior is dominated by a huge dome accentuated by amazing stained glass.

Leaving that building we headed across the street to the Opera House. It was commissioned by Bonaparte III (yes that Bonaparte) in 1861 and finished in 1875. It’s still an active theater today that seats almost 2,000 people. The interiors were over the top and the scale of the building was challenging to capture.

Again, because we can’t miss a meal, we headed back across the street to the food building of Galleries Lafayette. If you saw the last season of Top Chef, this is the building that the chefs were shopping in. We found a pork restaurant and had an amazing meal prepared right in front of us.

With rain moving in, we headed back to the condo where naps may or may not have been experienced😊

The late afternoon found us wandering around looking for cheese, bread, nuts, French Vermouth (required for a Manhattan), and WD-40 (because the door to the condo was unbelievably squeaky). With the light rain we opted to stay in, eat leftovers from last night, and watch a movie.

Party animals? Yep that’s us!
