Day 39 - Paris - August 1

Follow our journey on this map.

Day 39 had us preparing for a full day of rain as we headed to Versailles. It was anything but bad; it was spectacular with the high in the low 70s, medium wind, and partly cloudy skies.

On our way to the metro station we stopped by our local brasserie for a bite of breakfast. We didn’t necessarily mean to make it a “full” breakfast, but it came with a selection of juice, selection of croissant or chocolate bread (which turned out to be a chocolate croissant), omelette or fried egg, and bacon or salmon. On top of that, they delivered fresh bread with butter and jelly. We were totally full.

After a short 30 minute ride on the RER to the Versailles station, we got off and strolled over to the property. Because the transportation time was far shorter than expected we had plenty of time to just look around including a sneak peek at the garden.

The walk through the palace was spectacular. The scale of the rooms and the extensive use of materials made it difficult to capture the true essence of the extravagance. There are several shots of the interior including one of Mae standing next to what is a medium size painting. You’ll see what I mean about capturing scale.

Once we completed the tour of the interior we went out to the gardens. It was sunny and truly amazing to see the extent of the property. We barely saw a small portion of the gardens in the 2 hours we spent there. But what we did see was absolutely amazing.

We’re only in our 3rd day but the 6 of us are having a blast traveling together which should be obvious from some of the photos.
