Back in New Orleans on Day 10. Getting off the ship was a breeze; they whisked us to a bus and we embarked on a 3-hour tour around New Orleans. Mae was born here and it’s where we met and got married. In all those years and subsequent trips, we had never taken a sightseeing bus around the city. It was great and the guide was knowledgeable about the big events and interesting tid bits.
We stopped at the New Orleans Museum of Art for quite a while. They have a nice collection but a better sculpture garden. We walked around that most of the time and then headed to the hotel by way of the Garden District.
The Westin took care of us and gave us a high room overlooking the river. It’s always a spectacular view.
Lunch was a Mothers of course for a Po Boy and gumbo.
We generally head out to the Greenwood Cemetery to check on the graves of Mae’s family. Today was no different. The streetcar runs from across the street from our hotel straight up to the cemetery. It’s always a funky experience to take that mode of transportation.
The French Quarter Fest is this weekend and the city is packed. We were fortunate to get a reservation for dinner at the Red Fish Grill and it did not disappoint. Following dinner we headed to the Bombay Bar. It’s not advertised; we stumbled on it on our last visit. It’s tucked away in a hotel pass through with just a name on the door. Inside is an old school bar with live music. It’s mostly locals who want to enjoy a bespoke cocktail and listen to jazz in an intimate setting.
I’ve included some random photos from the day.
