Day 9 is in the books as we end our time on the river. We spent a few hours wandering through the Houmas House in Darrow, Louisiana. It was really convenient that we tied up across the street and could just walk over at our leisure. The afternoon found us in the Manchac Swamp on a pontoon boat scoping out some seriously large alligators.
One of the interesting things that this ship did was tie mooring lines to trees. See the photos. I guess that because the river level changes so rapidly, they just have to make do.
Most of this trip was surrounded by music in the evening. We started in Memphis with the Blues and progressed downriver through Rock and Roll, Soul, Creole, Cajun, Zydeco, Big Band, and ended tonight with Dixieland. Wendell Brunious, the leader of the Preservation Hall Legacy Band, and his wife performed tonight. It was really something to be that close to legitimate, live Dixieland jazz (see the videos below).
And of course we end the photos with a selfie of those we spent the most time with:)
We disembark early tomorrow to start 2 days ashore in New Orleans!
